Intensive counseling set for slain Naga couple’s kids

Social workers in Naga City have their work cut out for them as they deal with the children who saw their parents dead in their home in barangay South Poblacion, Naga City last Sunday dawn.

Social welfare worker Edna Regudo of the Department of Social Welfare and Development’s (DSWD) Crisis Intervention Unit, confirmed that the two kids of slain couple Junjie Albero and Marjilly Sanger remains traumatized by the incident.

“They will undergo trauma assesment to determine the extent of their trauma and its possible effects on the other two children,” Regudo told Cebu Daily News.

She said the four children of slain couple Junjie Albero and Marjilly Sanger aged nine to two years old will be assessed by a child psychiatrist at the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC) within the week.

Albero and Marjilly Sanger died on the spot after they were shot in the head by their unidentified assailant, who sped away on his motorcycle after the incident.

The lone witness was their two-year-old son, who sat on Sanger’s lap during the shooting. He and the other children were left unharmed.

The nine-year-old boy screamed and jumped out of the window after seeing the parents dead.

“The child can understand the situation even if he can’t express it,” Regudo said of the two-year-old child.

The children are staying with their grandmother Lilia Sanger, the chieftain of the Aeta community in barangay South Poblacion.

Senior Supt. Patrocinio Comendador, Cebu provincial police chief, said they remain confident in resolving the murders despite the difficulty in handling the children, who remain the only viable witnesses so far.
