All Saints Day in Calabarzon ‘peaceful,’ says police

LUCENA CITY — Police described the celebration of the annual All Saints Day or “Undas” in the Calabarzon (Cavite. Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon) region as “peaceful.”
The Region 4A police reported that based on the monitoring of local cops, more than 326,000 visited 584 cemeteries and 44 columbariums in the region.
“There were no recorded violent incidents related to Undas,” the report said.
To maintain peace and order, the authorities confiscated 179 prohibited items such as bladed weapons, sound equipment, and alcoholic drinks brought by cemetery-goers, which were earlier declared illegal.
Brigadier General Jose Melencio Nartatez, Jr., Police Regional Office 4-A commander, lauded the police in the region for doing their duties and responsibilities in ensuring the peaceful observance of All Saints Day.
“We also acknowledge the community in adhering to the policies of their respective local government units and the massive campaign on Ligtas Undas Tips,” Nartatez said in a statement.
The PRO 4-A deployed 7,706 policemen since Oct. 29 to help maintain peace and order during Undas.
