Damage to farms, fisheries in Bicol due to ‘Paeng’ hits P701 million
LEGAZPI CITY — The damage to agriculture and fisheries in the Bicol region due to Severe Tropical Storm “Paeng” (international name: Nalgae) climbed to P701 million, according to the partial damage report by the Department of Agriculture Monday, October 31.
Paeng, which made two landfalls over the Bicol region early Saturday, has affected 26,347 farmers and fisherfolk due to the damage it left in the region’s six provinces.
In Catanduanes, where the storm made its first landfall at 1:10 a.m., the damage to rice was estimated at P5 million.
Meanwhile, in Camarines Sur, where it made its second landfall at 1:40 a.m., the damage to rice was pegged at P456 million.
Other losses in Camarines Sur were valued at P6 million each in fisheries and corn plantations, P5 million in high-value crops, and P717,275 in livestock. INQ
