Imee Marcos vows to help Filipinos to recover from calamities

MANILA, Philippines — Senator Imee Marcos vowed on Monday to help Filipinos who are reeling from the impact of the recent calamities that wreaked havoc in the country.

The Philippines recently experienced a magnitude 6.4 earthquake in Abra and Severe Tropical Storm Paeng.

“On our part, we promise to help our people retrieve their loved ones, restore their health and well-being, repair their homes and recover their livelihoods.

“Let us take this opportunity to pray for our country that it may be spared from disasters while strengthening our collective faith and resilience as a people,” Marcos said in a statement.

The senator likewise found the country’s situation “unfortunate” and sympathized with individuals affected by the calamities.

“It is unfortunate that in a season of remembering our departed loved ones, our national consciousness has to deal with the tragic loss of lives and massive damage to infrastructure.

“Our profound sympathies go to the families and communities who suffered most from the wrath of Mother Nature — whose homes were destroyed, whose livelihoods were lost, and whose loved ones were taken away,” she said.

An earthquake jolted the province of Abra on October 28, hurting 85 individuals.

Paeng, on the other hand, has killed 98 individuals and affected around 1.9 million people.
