Quezon province on red alert for Tropical Storm Paeng

LUCENA CITY — The Quezon provincial government raised a red alert on Thursday, Oct. 27, for the possible impact of Tropical Storm Paeng (international name Nalgae).
Quezon Gov. Angelina Tan, in a memorandum issued around 5 p.m., ordered all mayors and disaster preparedness councils to raise the status of their respective emergency operations centers to red alert ahead of the anticipated impact of Paeng.
Provincial and local disaster preparedness officials were also ordered to heed the protocols issued by the Department of the Interior and Local Government.
The protocols would strengthen disaster alertness, preparedness, response, and monitoring by local governments.
Tan also ordered the suspension of classes at all levels in public and private schools from Oct. 28 to 29 “to safeguard the learners and school personnel from unnecessary physical dangers that they may be exposed to and to prepare for the possible impacts of severe weather conditions.”
Local governments have been encouraged to organize their respective incident management teams for quick deployment in case of an emergency.
City Mayor Mark Alcala issued a separate order on class suspension on Friday at all levels in public and private schools.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) in its bulletin as of 5 a.m. Friday, said Paeng was last located 410 km east of Borongan City, Eastern Samar.
It has maximum sustained winds of 75 km/hr near the center and gustiness of up to 90 km/hr.
