Magnitude 5.1 quake strikes off Davao Occidental

MANILA, Philippines — A magnitude 5.1 earthquake struck off Davao Occidental on Sunday morning, the Philippine Institute of Seismology and Volcanology (Phivolcs) said.

The was initially pegged at magnitude 5.6 but was later set at magnitude 5.1 by Phivolcs in an updated earthquake advisory.

The epicenter of the quake was located 447 kilometers southwest of Balut Island, Davao Occidental.

Phivolcs said the tremor was tectonic in origin and was recorded at exactly 10:15 am with a depth of focus of 259 kilometers.

No recorded intensities were also logged by Phivolcs in any part of the country or in Mindanao. No damage or aftershocks are also to be expected.
