Fisherman rescued after 2 days, 11.5 hours adrift on capsized boat
TACLOBAN CITY, Leyte, Philippines — After sitting on his capsized boat for two days and 11.5 hours, a fisherman from Bohol province was rescued by a group of fishermen from Southern Leyte on Saturday, Sept. 17.
The rescued fisherman was identified as Bimbo Sumonod, a 34-year-old resident of Barangay Lungsod-Daan, Mabini town, Bohol, according to the Eastern Visayas Police Regional Office.
Sumunod went to sea at about 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 14. At around 7 p.m., he ran into big waves and heavy rain that caused his motorized boat to capsize.
He survived by getting up on the now exposed bottom of his overturned boat.
At about 6:30 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 17, fishermen from Barangay Magallanes of Limasawa, who were fishing in the area, spotted Sumonod and rescued him.
