LIST: Canceled flights due to severe tropical storm Florita

Flights have been canceled due to inclement weather brought by severe tropical storm Florita (international name: Ma-on)

MANILA, Philippines — Several flights on Tuesday were canceled due to bad weather brought about by severe tropical storm Florita (international name: Ma-on), the Manila International Airport Authority (Miaa) said.

In an advisory, Miaa said the following flights were canceled as of 7:11 a.m.:

As of Tuesday morning, Florita was dumping rain over a large part of the Philippines, notably in Luzon and Visayas.

“Lumakas na po ang bagyong Florita, from tropical storm category, ngayon po ay naging severe tropical storm category. Kasalukuyan, malaking bahagi ng ating bansa, lalo na sa Luzon at Visayas, ay nakakaranas ng maulap na kalangitan na may pag-ulan dahil sa bagyo at sa habagat, ” weather specialist Aldczar Aurelio said.

(Florita has gained strength. From a tropical storm category, it has been upgraded to a severe tropical storm category. Currently, a large part of the country, especially in Luzon and Visayas, will experience cloudy skies with rain because of the severe tropical storm and the southwest monsoon).

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administratio (Pagasa) issued a bulletin on Florita earlier Tuesday.

Due to the severe tropical storm, Signal No. 3 was raised over four Luzon areas with Pagasa warning of widespread flooding and rain-induced landslides.

Classes were also suspended in some parts of the Ilocos Region and Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon) due to the Florita, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).

NDRRMC said 67 classes have been suspended in CAR, 31 in Cagayan Valley, and three in Central Luzon.— Lyka Farillon, trainee
