PNP: ‘Premature’ to link Ateneo shooting with killing of gunman’s father
MANILA, Philippines — It is “premature” to link the recent shooting at the Ateneo de Manila University in Quezon City with the killing of the gunman’s father in Lamitan City in Basilan on Friday morning, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said.
The PNP earlier confirmed that Rolando Yumol, the father of Dr. Chao Tiao Yumol, the gunman in the Ateneo shooting, was shot dead by two still-unidentified suspects outside his residence in Lamitan City, Basilan on Friday morning.

“Sa ngayon, kabayan, premature po tayo na mag-speculate po kung ito nga ay may kinalaman doon sa nangyaring pamamaril sa Ateneo dahil hanggang ngayon ay nangangalap pa po ng ebidensya iyong ating mga pulis po doon sa area,” said PNP spokesperson PCol. Jean Fajardo said over ABS-CBN News’ Kabayan.
(As of now, it is premature to speculate that this is related to the Ateneo shooting incident since local police are still gathering evidence about the case.)
