4 missing in Abra after earthquake

Four people were reported missing in Abra province after the 7-magnitude earthquake that struck the province on Wednesday, July 27.

Several buildings in Bangued town were damaged after a 7.0-magnitude earthquake jolted Abra on July 27.

BAGUIO CITY—Four people were reported missing in Abra province after the 7-magnitude earthquake that struck the province on Wednesday, July 27.

Arnel Garcia, a local disaster risk reduction and management officer, identified the missing as Marcos Barreyro, (age unknown); Louis Balais Dining, 21; and two minors, ages 15 and 17.

Garcia said the four were on their way to work in Luba town from their hometown of Manabo.

They were riding a “kalalaw,” an improvised tricycle with a sidecar made to transport farm animals, when they were met by the tremor, Garcia added.

“They are reportedly missing near the landslide area in Sitio Kayaddakad in Poblacion, Luba,” Garcia told the Inquirer in a phone interview.

He added: “They did not reach their point of destination and did not go home, so their families reported them missing.”

A search to find the four was underway, Garcia said.
