P20M for river control project in Albay
LEGAZPI CITY—The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has allocated P20 million for the Busay-Bongalon river control project in Daraga, Albay, to address flooding that still threatens commuters negotiating the Maharlika Highway at Barangay (village) Culliat in the town.
Danilo Dequito, DPWH-Bicol regional director, said they were speeding up the project to complete it before the end of April, in time for the onset of the rainy season.
The P20 million would be in addition to the P8 million spent to construct a 40-linear-meter dike last October that had been damaged by incessant rains in Albay over the last quarter of 2011 and early this year, he said.—Mar S. Arguelles
