Davao City court bars doctor who killed Grade 9 student from travel abroad

DAVAO CITY—The Regional Trial Court Branch 17 granted the precautionary hold departure order for Dr. Marvin Rey Andrew Pepino, 32, accused in the killing of Grade 9 student Amierkhan Mangacop on July 2 outside a bar in this city.

Mangacop’s legal team received the copy of the order dated July 26 signed Wednesday morning by Acting Presiding Judge Emmanuel C. Carpio.

The order stated that the counsel for the accused, Marcos Chua Jr. did not object to the issuance of the hold-departure order.

Pepino is barred from leaving the country, and his name will be on the hold-departure list under the Bureau of Immigration Office in this city and Manila and the Department of Foreign Affairs.

“Let a copy of this Precautionary Hold Departure Order together with the photograph of the accused attached to this PHDO, be furnished to the Department of Foreign Affairs and the Bureau of Immigration (Davao and Manila), directing them to stop and hold said accused from leaving the country and to include his name in the Hold Departure List of the said offices,” the order stated.

Pepino, a non-uniformed personnel of the Philippine National Police Region XI in this city has posted a P180,000 bail after his case was downgraded from murder to homicide on July 22.
