Dengue cases in Western Visayas nearing 7,000
BACOLOD CITY — Dengue cases in Western Visayas are nearing 7,000, with Negros Occidental still the topnotcher on Monday.
According to the Department of Health (DOH), Western Visayas’ dengue cases increased by 674 from July 10-16 for a total of 6,856 cases with 37 deaths this year.
“This is a 472 percent increase in dengue cases compared to the same period last year,” the DOH said.
Negros Occidental had 230 new dengue cases from July 10-16 for a total of 2,445 cases and 11 deaths this year.
The 2,455 cases from January 1 to July 16 are an increase of 910 percent compared to the same period in 2021.
Article continues after this advertisementBacolod City also recorded 41 new dengue cases and one death for a total of 398 cases and six deaths from January 1 to July 16.
Article continues after this advertisement“That is an increase by 159 percent compared to the cases in Bacolod City during the same period last year,” the DOH said.
Antique has 1,731 cases and six deaths; Iloilo province, 1,228 cases and 11 deaths; Capiz, 370 cases; Iloilo City, 293 cases and one death; Aklan, 291 cases and 2 deaths; and Guimaras, 100 cases, it added.
