NAIA operations suspended due to lighting alert – DOTr

MANILA, Philippines — The Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) suspended operations due to a red lightning advisory at 12:20p.m., according to the Department of Transportation (DOTr) on Monday.
“PAGASA (Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration) issued a Lightning Red Alert as of 12:20PM; Airport operations stop,” said DOTr in an advisory.
According to the NAIA Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA), the alert is a safety measure aimed at preventing any untoward incident from happening when lightning flashes are prevalent in the immediate area.
Flight operations resumed at 12:32 p.m. after the lightning advisory was downgraded from red to yellow.
It was, however, reverted to red alert status by 1:33 p.m.
The alert status was then brought back to yellow alert at 2:42 p.m., resuming all operations in NAIA.
