MANILA, Philippines – After four months, the construction of a P49-million slope protection structure along the San Fernando-Bagulin Road in San Fernando, La Union meant to help stabilize landslide-prone areas, has been completed by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

In a statement on Wednesday, the DPWH said that with the 154-meter slope protection structure, motorists would be safe as they pass through the San Fernando-Bagulin Road.

According to Tan, workers used eco-friendly high-tensile wire mesh to construct the slope protection structure, which keeps rock masses in place and maintains the stability of the slopes, minimizing possible environmental harm.

The DPWH added that the budget allocation of P49 million for the project, which the government provided under the 2022 General Appropriations Act, covered the installation of erosion mats anchored with ground anchor nails along the landslide-prone section of the road.
