Pagasa: ITCZ, monsoon to bring cloudy skies, rain in parts of PH

MANILA, Philippines — The intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) affecting Southern Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao would cause cloudy skies and scattered rain in certain areas within the next 24 hours.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) issued this forecast on Wednesday afternoon, specifically noting that overcast skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms will prevail over Visayas, Mimaropa, Bicol Region, and Zamboanga Peninsula.

It also said that such a weather condition is likewise being influenced by the southwest monsoon, locally termed “habagat.”

As for Metro Manila and the rest of the country, Pagasa said partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rains or thunderstorms brought about by localized thunderstorms may prevail on Thursday.

The state weather bureau then warned that flash floods or landslides may occur during moderate to at times heavy rains or severe thunderstorms in the all areas mentioned where rain may occur.

Pagasa further said that moderate winds coming from the southwest is expected over the western sections of Central and Southern Luzon, and Western Visayas, which will be accompanied by moderate coastal waters.

Pagasa said the rest of the country will have light to moderate winds from southwest to southeast, with slight to moderate sea conditions.

No gale warning was raised on any sea boards nationwide.

Meanwhile, the state weather service reported recording a minimum temperature of 23.5°C at 2 a.m. on Wednesday and a maximum temperature of 32.6°C at 1:00 p.m. on the same day at its Science Garden weather station in Diliman, Quezon City.

Pagasa said the sun will set at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday and will rise 5:32 a.m. on Thursday, July 7.
