BFP in Cebu City: Arson raps being readied vs 5 persons in Punta Princesa fire

CEBU CITY — Five persons will be charged with arson in relation to the fire that affected five sitios in Barangay Punta Princesa, Cebu City last Saturday, June 11.

Senior Fire Officer 2 Wendel Villanueva, spokesperson of the Bureau of Fire Protection in Cebu City, said their investigation revealed that the blaze was intentional.

He said they now have the names of persons who may have caused the fire.

The charges will be filed at the Cebu City Prosecutor’s Office within the week.

Based on the data from the Department of Social and Welfare and Services (DSWS), at least 711 households, consisting of 892 families and 3,663 individuals, lost their homes to the fire.

The number may increase since the validation is still ongoing.

The DSWS has provided food and other basic needs to the fire victims. The supply, however, will last for only three days.
