Southwestern parts of the country, particularly the Zamboanga peninsula and Palawan, may experience gloomy weather as the intertropical convergence zone will bring cloud bands from Friday until the weekend, the state weather bureau said.

MANILA, Philippines — Southwestern parts of the country, particularly the Zamboanga peninsula and Palawan, may experience gloomy weather as the intertropical convergence zone will bring cloud bands from Friday until the weekend, the state weather bureau said.

Weather updates from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) showed cloud clusters forming south of the country, near Celebes Sea that surrounds western Mindanao.

Despite the possible rains over Zamboanga peninsula and Palawan, Pagasa said that no weather disturbance such as low pressure areas or tropical cyclones are expected to enter the Philippine area of responsibility in the next three to five days.

However, Pagasa is monitoring the frontal system north of the country as it may have an effect on weather systems in the coming days.

“Dito sa Metro Manila at nalalabi pang bahagi ng ating bansa ay patuloy na makaka-asa ng pangkalahatang maaliwalas na panahon, maliban lamang sa mga pulo-pulong pag-ulan, pagkidlat, pagkulog,” weather specialist Raymond Ordinario said.

(Here in Metro Manila and the remaining parts of the country, we can still expect an overall fair weather, except for the isolated rains, thunderstorms and lightning.)

“Mapapansin din natin dito hilagang bahagi ng ating area of responsibility ang pagkakaroon ng makakapal na kaulapan.  Ito pa rin ‘yong frontal system na babantayan natin sa mga susunod na araw kung posible ngang maka-apekto sa hilagang bahagi ng Luzon,” he added.

(We’ll notice that in this northern part of our area of responsibility, we will have thick clouds that are part of the frontal system, which we are monitoring in the coming days if it would have any effect on the northern portions of Luzon.)

On Saturday, a huge part of Luzon would have fair and hot weather, as Metro Manila and Laoag expect temperatures of 25 to 34 degrees Celsius, Tuguegarao with 25 to 35 degrees, Legazpi and Puerto Princesa with 26 to 32 degrees, and Tagaytay with 23 to 31 degrees.

Most areas in Visayas and Mindanao would also have a fair weather, as Tacloban would have temperatures of 26 to 32 degrees Celsius, Cebu with 27 to 32 degrees, Iloilo with 27 to 33 degrees, Cagayan de Oro with 24 to 31 degrees, Davao with 25 to 32 degrees, and Zamboanga with 25 to 33 degrees.

None of the country’s seaboards have been placed under a gale warning, but sea conditions on waters north of Luzon would be moderate.  The rest of the country’s seas would have a slight to moderate condition.
