Fire survivors get aid from Catbalogan gov’t

TACLOBAN CITY—The Catbalogan City government in Samar has provided financial assistance to the victims of a fire that razed on Tuesday at least 20 houses in Poblacion 9, Barangay Ubanon.

Families, whose houses were razed, received P20,000 each, while those with damaged residences got P10,000 each.

The affected families also received food packs from the City Social Welfare and Development Office.

Fire investigators have yet to determine the cause of the fire in Poblacion 9, Barangay Ubanon in Catbalogan, which started at 3 p.m. and extinguished at 4:12 p.m.

The narrow street going to the fire site made it difficult for fire trucks to maneuver.

The police report said the fire started from the house of Rowena Agbon and quickly spread to neighboring houses made mostly of light materials.

Damage was placed at P800,000.
