A network of Catholic schools has urged voters to reject candidates who support the “historical distortion” of martial law,  the “unjust acts” of the current administration, and its policy toward China.

MANILA, Philippines — Speaker Lord Allan Velasco on Easter Sunday urged registered voters to seek God’s guidance in choosing who to vote for in the May 9 elections.

“With only less than a month before the general elections, let us seek God’s guidance in order for us to make the right decision to vote for leaders who genuinely care for the country and will effectively lead us on the path to recovery,” said Velasco.

“Let us pray that the will of God and the Filipino people will truly reflect the outcome of the forthcoming elections,” he added.

The House of Representatives is currently on break and will resume session on May 23.

Senator Nancy Binay for her part said that she hopes Filipinos on Easter will “commit to become vessels of love, peace, and hope from which our fellow Filipinos can draw strength.”

(As the day of our election of the next leaders of the country approaches, let us keep in mind that we are all responsible to one another.)

“Our choices will affect others. But rather than fear this responsibility, we must embrace it, and cling to what the Lord teaches us, trusting that by reflecting on what He asks of us, we can discern what is right,” she added.

Senator Risa Hontiveros, meanwhile, urged Filipinos to look for inspiration in the celebration of Jesus Christ’s resurrection, and “draw strength from the light and hope that he brings.”

(Amid the suffering and sacrifice, let us trust that our Savior will not forsake us. Most especially our fellow Filipinos who have also been hit by typhoons and other calamities in recent days.)

(So with our firm belief and faith, let us pray that we will be finally free from hardships and sufferings. Let us also pray for a healthier and more prosperous country.)
