If endorsed by Duterte, Gutoc says she would be grateful

To be as non-partisan as one can be during Senate investigations, senatorial aspirant Samira Gutoc stressed the need to listen to all sides without being a “defender” of individuals or groups being placed under inquiry.

MANILA, Philippines — Senatorial candidate Samira Gutoc on Monday said that while she is not actively seeking it, she will be grateful if President Rodrigo Duterte endorses her candidacy.

“I do not solicit, but I’m grateful if ever,” Gutoc said in an interview on ABS-CBN News Channel’s Headstart.

Gutoc is included in the Senate slate of Manila Mayor Isko Moreno.

“President Duterte is a voter… I, also as a human being, as a candidate of Marawi, would need the vote of everyone,” Gutoc said.

Gutoc was a known critic of Duterte, who once said that  the President encourages impunity.

Gutoc, now a member of Aksyon Demokratiko, was part of the opposition’s Otso Diretso senatorial slate in 2019, but failed to secure a Senate seat.
