Belgica says he wants to emulate Duterte’s strong leadership

MANILA, Philippines — Former Presidential Anti-Corruption Commission (PACC) Chairman Greco Belgica promised to take a hard-nosed stance against illegal drugs, criminality and graft and corruption just like President Rodrigo Duterte.
The senatorial candidate said it is important that someone takes the president’s place once Duterte ends his term after the May 2022 polls.
“Ang mga tao nanatakot na ‘pag-alis ni presidente wala nang katatakutan ang mga druglords, kriminal, baka tumaas muli ang korapsyon,” he said.
“Kaya mahalaga na maglagay tayo ng mga taong gagawin din ang ginawa ni President Duterte.”
Belgica said he will introduce measures that will help continue Duterte’s crusade.
“Ilalaban ko na ibalik ang parusang kamatayan,” he said. “Palalakasin ko po ang law enforcement agencies, dadagdagan ko ang pondo, tao, gamit at intelligence equipment.”
He added that he will protect law enforcers who will be forced to neutralize bad elements in the line of duty.
“Kung kailangang patayin, e di patayin. If they threaten our children, peace and order sa Philippine society,” said Belgica.
“Sa senado gagawin ko iyan sa batas, any person law enforcer na makapatay while performing his duty, maabswelto po iyon.”
He said crime rate will only be reduced if perpetrators are severly punished. Hence, the need for a strong leader, said Belgica.
“We need a leader as strong or even half as strong as the president. ‘Yung ‘di magdadawalng isip na ‘patayin ang mga ‘yan pag lumaban.’ We need a leader who will also give confidence to our law enforcement na kapag meron silang naging problema at the performance of their duty, they will be backed 100%,” said Belgica.
