3 alleged NPA rebels yield in Quezon

LUCENA CITY––At least three alleged New People’s Army (NPA) rebels surrendered to the military in Mauban town in Quezon province, a police report said Thursday.

Quezon police said the rebels – Marissa Aresna, 51; Roberto Arevalo, 54; and Mary Joy Ramon – surrendered Wednesday to the Army’s 59th Infantry Battalion, based in Barangay Lual Barrio. The rebel-returnees did not bring any firearms with them.

The report said the former rebels belonged to an NPA unit operating in the province’s central and northern parts.

The surrenderers will be enrolled in the government Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP) once they qualify for the program.

Under the E-Clip, an NPA surrenderee can receive P15,000 cash assistance and P50,000 livelihood assistance.

The former rebels can also avail themselves of firearms remuneration and housing, medical, loans, and legal assistance, among other forms of help from the government.
