Death of 112 more COVID-19 patients raises toll to 54,003
MANILA, Philippines — The death of 112 more COVID-19 patients increased the country’s total fatality count due to the coronavirus disease to 54,003 as of Monday.
Based on the Department of Health’s (DOH) latest case bulletin, 107 of these patients died this month while the rest passed on in 2021: two in November, two in October, and one in May.
The DOH explained that delays are still due to the late encoding of death information to DOH’s COVIDKaya.
As of end-January, the DOH said that the total confirmed COVID-19 cases nationwide stood at 3,560,202.
The country’s health care utilization rate, meanwhile, was at 46 percent for ICU beds dedicated for COVID-19 patients; 46 percent for isolation beds; and 48 percent for ward beds. The DOH added that 25 percent of ventilators for coronavirus-hit people across the country were being used as of its latest report.
Article continues after this advertisementIn Metro Manila, the health agency said 38 percent of ICU beds, 35 percent of isolation beds, 41 percent of ward beds, and 26 percent of ventilators were in use.
Article continues after this advertisementGlobally, according to the Johns Hopkins University COVID-19 tracker, some 5,664,267 people infected with the SARS-CoV-2 virus that causes COVID-19 have died since the pandemic started in 2020. A total of 374,753,289 people contracted COVID-19 worldwide.
