/ 11:06 AM January 18, 2022

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO—A barangay captain in Guagua town in Pampanga was killed Monday, Jan. 17, by a lone assassin, the police said.

Three gunshot wounds to the head, cheek, and arm snuffed the life out of Rainer “Balut” Asban, village chief of Sto. Niño, past 9 p.m.

At 45, he stayed single and did not run for the 2022 elections. Asban dealt with issues related to the public market before he was killed, said an INQUIRER source.

The killer walked toward him and fired at Asban as the latter stood talking to somebody on his mobile phone at a gas station in the village, Lt. Lennard Esteban, the officer of the day of the Guagua police, said in a phone interview.

The gunman, who wore a black shirt, shorts, and a face mask, fled toward a road in Sto. Cristo village. The police’s dragnet operation failed to find him, Esteban said.
