DepEd in Calapan suspends classes, teaching-related activities due to COVID surge

CITY OF CALAPAN – The Department of Education (DepEd) Schools Division of Calapan has suspended classes and other teaching-related activities from January 17 to 22 in the midst of the surge in COVID-19 cases, the agency announced on Sunday morning.

The suspension includes all other school activities, whether physical or virtual/online that involves teachers, learners and parents.

School heads may stay with other school-based non-teaching personnel in their respective stations or may opt to work from home and be on call when necessary to ensure the delivery of public/educational services to clients while the teachers are on academic break, it said.

“The schedule of midyear break on January 31 to February 5, 2022, shall remain as stipulated by DepEd Order No. 29, s. 2021 (School Calendar and Activities for School Year 2021-2022),” it added.

“Private elementary and secondary schools and high schools in State/Local Universities and Colleges (SUCh or LUCe), in consultation with their respective parents-teachers associations, may exercise their own discretion relative to the suspension of classes and K to 12 learning activities,” the agency said.

As of January 15, since the pandemic broke in 2020, Calapan has reported 3,253 COVID-19 cases, of which 184 are active (34 are new cases), with 2,977 recoveries and 126 deaths.
