New COVID-19 cases below 1,000 for 8th straight day

The Philippines recorded only 500 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, the eighth straight day that the country logged additional cases that are less than 1,000.

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippines recorded only 500 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, the eighth straight day that the country logged new cases that are less than 1,000.

According to the Department of Health (DOH) the country now has 15,327 active cases of COVID-19 out of all the 2,833,038 confirmed coronavirus infections.

Of the active cases, 51.8 percent are either mild or asymptomatic. DOH data showed that 756 patients are asymptomatic, 7,183 have mild cases, 3,832 have moderate infections, 2,489 are under severe condition, and 1,067 are under critical status.

The new cases, however, do not include data from two testing laboratories that were closed on Monday and three laboratories that failed to submit data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System.

Meanwhile, the DOH also reported 951 more recoveries and 167 deaths. So far, a total of 2,768,999 patients have already recovered and 48,712 have died.

The health department posted a 2.1 percent positivity rate out of 30,841 individuals who got tested for coronavirus on Monday.

Some 27 percent of intensive care unit beds, 26 percent of isolation beds, and 15 percent of ward beds and ventilators remain utilized.

The DOH removed nine duplicates from the total case count, while 187 cases were found to have tested negative have been removed from the total case count. Another 147 recoveries were likewise reclassified as deaths after final validation.

The Philippines’ new COVID-19 cases continue to decline amid the threat of the new Omicron variant, which the DOH says has yet to be detected in the country.
