ITCZ brings rain to parts of Mindanao; amihan to affect northern, central Luzon
MANILA, Philippines — The intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) will bring cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms in Caraga, Davao de Oriental, Davao de Oro, and Leyte Provinces, while the northeast monsoon and shear line will affect the weather in other parts of the country, the state weather bureau said Wednesday.
“Sa kasalukuyan, ang tinatawag nating ITCZ ang nakakaapekto sa Mindanao, samantalang ang northeast monsoon ang umiiral sa northern at central Luzon. Ang tinatawag nating shear line o ‘yung dating tail-end ng frontal system ang nakakaapekto sa silangang bahagi ng hilagang Luzon,” weather specialist Samuel Duran said in a forecast of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).
(At present, the ITCZ affects the weather in Mindanao while the northeast monsoon prevails over northern and central Luzon. The shear line or the previously called tail-end of a frontal system is affecting the eastern part of northern Luzon.)
The ITCZ is where winds coming from the northern and southern hemisphere converge, bringing clouds that cause rains in affected areas.
According to Pagasa’s forecast, the northeast monsoon, locally known as “amihan,” will bring cloudy skies with rains in Batanes and Babuyan Islands.

The state weather bureau added that Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers due to localized thunderstorms.
