Gov’t urged to support local transport networks
MANILA, Philippines — The government should support local transport network companies (TNCs) following the lifting of the moratorium on the entry of new companies into the transport network vehicle service (TNVS) market.
Rizal Rep. Fidel Nograles on Saturday pointed out that lifting the moratorium also meant opening the Philippine TNVS market to more foreign players.
Earlier, the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) said it was accepting applications for accreditation of new TNCs.
“We think that the government should support our local companies first before allowing foreign corporations to take over the Philippine TNVS market,” Nograles said.
The LTFRB lifted the moratorium on new TNCs after it found that only one TNC dominated the market.
“Aside from lifting the cap, the LTFRB and the Department of Transportation should study other ways to support Filipino-owned transport apps,” he added.
