PNP still trying to get more info on Duterte cocaine blind item

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Saturday said it is still trying to get additional information on the cocaine-using presidential aspirant as hinted by President Rodrigo Duterte.

In a statement, PNP chief Gen. Dionardo Carlos said the national police has started gathering information that could lead to an investigation.

“Kapag may mga pumapasok na mga relevant information sa amin, definitely we will conduct an investigation,” Carlos said.

“As of this time, we are trying to get additional information on that matter,” Carlos added.

While not identifying the candidate, Duterte hinted that the aspirant comes from a well-known and rich family.

Carlos meanwhile said the PNP supports the idea of conducting drug tests for candidates in elections.

“Although the PNP acknowledges that no law mandates the candidate to undergo a drug test, but doing so will set an example to their fellow countrymen by proving that they aren’t users of illegal drugs,” Carlos said.

However, the Commission on Elections said substance abuse is not included among the grounds for the disqualification of an aspirant for public office.
