MANILA, Philippines — Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio on Friday appealed to her supporters to wait for her announcement about her 2022 plans and not camp out at the Commission on Elections (Comelec) for her impending filing of substitution.

She also told them not to travel from their provinces to Manila, saying she is in Davao City.

The Davao City mayor also made the same call on media practitioners.

“Hindi na kailangan mag-camp-out pa dahil meron pang pandemya at ayoko kayong magkasakit. Ulan at init ng araw ang inyong kalaban. Isipin nyo rin po sana ang kalagayan ng inyong mga pamilya,” she added.

(You don’t have to camp out since there is still an ongoing pandemic and I don’t want you to get sick. Rain and the sun are your enemies. Think also of the state of your families.)

Duterte-Carpio said her spokespersons will issue official statements and will even provide pictures and videos.

Many are holding their breath as the Davao City mayor has yet to finalize her political plans for the 2022 elections.

In the previous days, she has been making political moves that hint at her running for national office.

She withdrew her certificate of candidacy for reelection as Davao City mayor and even resigned from her regional party, Hugpong ng Pagbabago, where she is the chairperson and founder.

In the latest development, Duterte-Carpio took her oath as a member of the Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats (Lakas-CMD) of former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.

Duterte-Carpio is being urged to run for president in the 2022 elections to succeed her father, President Rodrigo Duterte.

Even though she did not file her certificate of candidacy for any national position, she can still run for president, or any other post, as long as she joins a national political party.
