Former Inquirer correspondent shot dead in Davao del Sur town

DIGOS CITY — A former correspondent of the Philippine Daily Inquirer who now worked for a local publication and a broadcast station was gunned down inside his rented apartment in Bansalan town, Davao del Sur around 6 p.m. on Saturday, October 30.
Orlando Dinoy, fondly known among friends as “Dondon,” died on the spot due to a gunshot wound to the head, according to fellow broadcaster Ronnie Jhun Otero of Eagle 25 radio who rushed to the crime scene as soon as he heard the news.
Dinoy was currently working as a reporter for the online Newsline Philippines based in Davao City and as a volunteer anchor for the Digos City-based Energy FM airing noontime weather reports from Monday to Friday, the station management said.
According to reports, Dinoy, who also used to work for Sun Star SuperBalita, was inside his apartment which also served as his makeshift broadcast office when the still unidentified gunmen barged in and shot him at close range.
As of press time, local police are still awaiting the Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) to to gather material evidence at the crime scene.
