Negros Occidental COVID deaths reach 374 in October alone

BACOLOD CITY—Negros Occidental province has recorded 374 COVID-19 deaths in October, the highest in a single month since the pandemic started in March last year.

According to Provincial Administrator Rayfrado Diaz, the province recorded 135 deaths in one week alone—October 18 to 25.

Bago City had the most deaths in the past eight days at 34 followed by Sipalay City with 21 and Cadiz City with 15.

COVID-19 deaths in the province in March reached 10, April—37, May—79, June—104, July—97, August—60, September—234 and October—374, capitol data showed.

The Provincial Incident Management Team (PIMT) reported that from the start of the pandemic in March 2020 until Monday (Oct. 25, 2021), the province had 1,208 COVID-19 deaths.

Negros Occidental had 3,638 active COVID-19 cases on Monday and 11 new deaths, the PIMT reported.

“We are still very far from the end of this COVID so let’s continue to practice minimum health protocols,” Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson said on Monday.

The Department of Health also on Monday classified Negros Occidental as a low risk area for COVID-19 and lowered its alert level to 2.

Negros Occidental has so far vaccinated 419,822 residents against COVID-19 as of Monday, but the figure was expected to increase as more reports from towns and cities come in, Diaz said.
