Eleazar warns cops vs extortion racket
MANILA, Philippines — Gen. Guillermo Eleazar, chief of the Philippine National Police, warned cops against engaging in extortion, vowing to jail, and kick them out of the force. Eleazar on Monday tasked the PNP internal affairs service to probe and initiate administrative proceedings against six Manila police officers accused of extortion by a Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) chair in Tondo. The Manila Police District (MPD) arrested last week the six police officers, assigned with the Padre Algue police precinct, after allegedly taking P47,000 from the SK official and a companion who were caught violating curfew. The SK official claimed they were freed after forking over cash to the police officers. Eleazar said the MPD has charged the six police officers with robbery/extortion at the Manila prosecutor’s office.
