Angeles City orders closure of cemeteries during ‘Undas’
ANGELES CITY––The city government has ordered the closure of all public and privately owned cemeteries from Oct. 30 to Nov. 2 to prevent mass gatherings that could lead to the spread of COVID-19 during All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day or “Undas.”
In an executive order issued Oct. 7, Mayor Carmelo Lazatin Jr. said people usually flock to cemeteries during these four days to observe All Saints Day and All Souls Day.
“While the city government respects the Filipino tradition of remembering our departed loved ones, the mass gathering of people on these particular days poses dangers to spread disease due to lack of social distancing,” he said in Executive Order no. 23, series of 2021.
Lazatin urged people to “consider alternative dates” to visit cemeteries to remember their departed loved ones.
Last year, the mayor also ordered the closure of all cemeteries in this city for four days for the same reason.
The city government registered 19 new COVID-19 cases, 46 recoveries, and a single death on Sunday, Oct. 10. The active cases here stood at 647.
It has recorded 12,203 cases since the pandemic began last year. Of these, 11,046 have recovered, while 492 have died.
