Female NPA leader, 3 others slain in Negros Occidental clash
BACOLOD CITY—An alleged female official of the New People’s Army (NPA) and three of her companions were killed in a gunfight before dawn Thursday, Sept. 30, with government forces at Hacienda Builder, Barangay San Pablo, Manapla town, Negros Occidental.
The operatives identified the fatalities as Marilyn Badayos, finance officer and former front secretary of Southeast Front; Ronilo Desabille, propaganda and education officer; Rudy Carbajosa, finance logistics officer; and Rufino Bocaval, taxation and finance member.
Badayos was arrested in 2011 for her involvement in the killing of an Army scout ranger. She was released later on bail.
In 2016, she was arrested again in Negros Oriental based on a warrant of arrest concerning the killing of Private First Class Marlon Lanes of the 79th Infantry Battalion in Bais City, Negros Oriental.
She was also linked to the killing of PO3 Joe Harry Peralta and PO1 Henry Pacheco and the wounding of three others during an ambush on Feb. 18, 2016, in Negros Occidental.
Maj. Gen. Benedict Arevalo, 3rd Infantry “Spearhead” Division commander, said the four communist rebels who died in an encounter were the “brains of the extortion scheme” in the area.

Article continues after this advertisementResponding to information from residents, the 79th Infantry Battalion and police forces launched an operation against remnants of the dismantled Northern Negros Front, Komiteng Rehiyon-Negros/Cebu/Bohol/Siquijor (KR-NCBS).
A firefight, which ensued around 2 a.m., lasted for about an hour.
After securing the encounter site, the troops found four dead rebels abandoned by their comrades. They seized a .45 caliber pistol, .38 caliber revolver, two hand grenades, propaganda materials, and anti-government documents.
Lt. Col. J-jay T Javines of the 79th Infantry Battalion lauded the government troops for their outstanding joint effort against the communist rebels in Northern Negros.
The bodies were turned over to authorities for disposition.
