LOOK: Extensive infrastructure damage in Batanes after Typhoon Kiko

MANILA, Philippines — Batanes was left with extensive damage to its structures like government offices, schools, and homes after Typhoon Kiko pummeled the country’s northernmost province.
Photos sent to INQUIRER.net by Opal Bala on Monday showed the provincial capitol’s roofing being removed after strong typhoon winds lashed the province. A substantial portion of the Batanes National Science Highschool’s roofing was also gone.
The typhoon likewise uprooted old trees with some roads still blocked by debris. In some areas, houses were completely dismantled, leaving only remnants of certain rooms.

Kiko wreaked havoc from Friday, September 10, after it made its way from the Philippine Sea to the coastal waters of Batanes. The province was placed under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 4 after the typhoon almost intensified into a super typhoon category.
On Sunday, September 12, it was reported that many areas in Batanes were still without power because of Kiko.
