Senior Inspector Angel Lynn Salvador, ground commander and acting municipal fire marshal of Bureau of Fire Protection in Puerto Galera, in a phone interview, said the fire incident at Captain Greggs Restaurant and Dive Shop in Barangay (village) Sabang was reported to them around 4 a.m.

The fire was declared under control at 5:30 a.m. and out by 5:53 a.m.

Initial investigation revealed that damage on properties was estimated at half a million pesos.

“It helped that the barangay fire brigade and volunteers were active. The fire took place near the sea. While the fire truck (was) putting off the fire, a community bucket brigade from the sea simultaneously helped put out the fire,” said Salvador.

Investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of fire.
