56,441 COVID-19 protocol violators held in Cavite

LUCENA CITY — Police in Cavite province recorded a total of 56,441 COVID-19 quarantine violators in the past week amid the threat of highly transmissible Delta variants, authorities reported Sunday.

Police Colonel Marlon Santos, Cavite police chief, reported that authorities accosted the violators in different cities and municipalities in the province from August 30 to September 5.

Report said 6,307 violators were reprimanded for not wearing face shield while another 9,002 were also accosted for improper wearing of face mask.

At least 22,287 violators were also questioned for not wearing face shields and 14,064 others for its improper use.

Report said policemen also accosted 3,242 residents for violation of curfew hours in their respective communities while 1,539 individuals were accosted for violation of social distancing.

The violators paid fines, did community service, and performed other punishments imposed by concerned local governments.

Cavite, which remains under modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) until September 7, still has 16,459 active COVID-19 cases as of September 3.

According to the Department of Health (DOH) in Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon), Cavite has recorded 71 COVID-19 Delta variant cases as of September 2.

The record showed that 45 of the COVID-19 patients with Delta variant have recovered and one died while 25 others were being subjected “for verification”.

Dr. Eduardo Janairo, DOH-Calabarzon director, explained that the “for verification” tag means that they are still evaluating the origin of the infection and where the virus may have spread, where the patient lives or have stayed for the longest period, the signs and symptoms, the history of the disease, and many other variables.

On Thursday, Governor Jonvic Remulla disclosed that Cavite is set to receive five million doses of COVID-19 vaccines. The vaccines from various manufacturers will be delivered by the national government from September to December.

Based on the report of the provincial government as of September 1, the province has so far administered 1.4 million COVID-19 vaccine doses. A total of 428,151 have been fully vaccinated.
