Teacher, 5-year-old boy drown in Eastern Samar, Leyte

TACLOBAN CITY – A teacher and a 5-year-old boy drowned in separate incidents on Saturday, September 4, 2021.

In Can-avid town, Eastern Samar, Jewel Aseo, 25, and a teacher, drowned in a river at around 12:30 p.m.

Based on the investigation, Aseo appeared to be drunk when the incident happened.

Her body was found by the search and rescue team at the foot of a bridge in Barangay Canteros at around 3:45 p.m.

The boy, a kindergarten pupil, went to the river to swim along with other children at around 10 a.m.

Her elder sister, Rona Mae, went home first.

At around 12 noon, Pantoja got worried because her brother failed to return home for lunch.

She went back to the river and learned that her younger brother was missing.

This prompted her to look for help from neighbors and police.

The body of the young victim was found floating on the river just near their house at around 1:30 p.m.
