3 dead as truck slams into pickup

BATANGAS—Three persons, including a nun, were killed while two others were injured when the pickup truck they were riding in was hit by a cargo truck last Thursday on the Southern Tagalog Arterial Road (Star) Tollway in Barangay San Andres, Malvar, Batangas.

Senior Insp. Gaudencio Aguilera, Malvar police chief, said the fatalities were Sister Flordeliza Espiritu, 52, and two other employees from the Three Kings Parish Council in Gapan, Nueva Ecija.

Espiritu and one of the employees, Jasmin Liwag-Garcia, 35, were declared dead on arrival at the Mary Mediatrix Hospital in Lipa City.

Another passenger identified only as Emily, died on the spot, Aguilera said. Jerome Balinton, Inquirer Southern Luzon
