More cases of Delta variant detected in Bohol
TAGBILARAN CITY — Health authorities have detected more cases of the more transmissible Delta variant in the province of Bohol, which has been experiencing a surge in new infections.
On Monday, the Department of Health in Central Visayas (DOH-7) reported that four additional Delta variants of COVID-19 were detected in the province.
The samples sent to the Philippine Genome Center in Manila were collected from July 9 to August 9.
According to the Regional Epidemiology Surveillance Unit Central Visayas (RESU 7), two cases were detected in Tagbilaran City, one case from Baclayon and one from San Miguel town.
However, local health authorities said the patients have already recovered.
Article continues after this advertisementIn an earlier interview, Dr. Mary Jean Loreche, chief pathologist of DOH-7, said the DOH-7 is not discounting the possibility that Bohol already has a community transmission of the variant.

The local government continues to call on residents to adhere to the health protocols and get vaccinated against COVID-19.
As of Tuesday, Bohol reported 1,842 active cases.
