SHS-AdC golfers rule Samsung event

The Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu Lady Magis Eagles captured the college/high school girls’ division crown of the 11th Samsung Interscholastic Golf Championships over the weekend at the Canlubang Golf and Country Club’s north course.

The tandem of Ericka Lim and Alyeska Yunam tallied 173 points to outclass the De La Salle University and the Ateneo de Manila University, which finished with identical scores of 162.

DLSU though, ended up with the second-place trophy by virtue of the countback rule. The tournament utilized the Modified Stableford scoring system.

The Cebuanas opened with 80 points last Saturday on the 44 of Lim and the 36 of Yunam. DLSU and Ateneo were just four shots behind with identical scores of 76. Lim and Yunam then ran away with the championship behind a sizzling 93 on Sunday on Yunam’s 49 points and the 44 of Lim.

Both DLSU and ADMU-1 failed to keep pace with identical 86 in the second round.

Lim and Yunam, however, failed to take a podium finish in the individual competition. Lim’s two-day total of 88 was good for fourth while Yunam’s 85 was fifth best in the individual race.

Other tournament winners included overall boys champion DLSU-1 with 306 points, Ateneo-1 which topped the boys’ collegiate division with 291 points, La Salle Greenhills (LSGH) which won the boys’ high school division with 300 points, LSGH in the boys’ grade school (234) and De La Salle Zobel in the girls’ grade school (184).  /Correspondent Jonas Panerio
