M-16 spray leaves Rizal couple dead

/ 11:22 PM February 17, 2012

A couple was killed in Rodriguez town in Rizal province on Thursday night when a man trained his M-16 rifle on their house.

Edwin Flores, 52, an electrician employed at San Mateo landfill and who appeared to be the main target of the attack, died of several gunshot wounds in front of the house in Phase IB-Sub-Urban in Barangay San Jose at around 7:40 p.m.

Police said his wife Melinda, 49, who was taking a bath at that time, was hit by stray bullets and was still able to get out of the bathroom to call for help.

The couple’s four children were inside the house during the attack and were able to rush outside screaming for help after shooting, but their mother died when she was about to be brought to the hospital, according to the case investigator.

Investigators recovered 17 cartridges from the M-16 rifle used by the suspect, who remained at large and unidentified.
