Couple buried in Benguet landslide

ITOGON, Benguet — A man and his wife were buried in a landslide near a riverbank in this town on Tuesday morning, police said.

The two were identified as Nestor Talangcag, 54, and Maureen Talangcag, 57. Both are pocket miners at Sitio Beda in Barangay Loacan.

According to the police, the victims were gold panning along the Antamok River when the side of the mountain collapsed due to massive soil erosion around 10: 45 a.m. Their son managed to run away, investigators said.

Residents, village officials, and local authorities were still conducting a search and retrieval operation in the area.
