DOH records over 14,000 COVID-19 cases for 2 consecutive days

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippines recorded 14,749 new COVID-19 infections on Sunday, bringing the total confirmed cases to 1,741,616.

The Department of Health (DOH) also reported 10,720 fresh recoveries pushing the total to 1,608,528 or 92.4 percent of the overall cases.

Meanwhile, the number of fatalities rose to 30,340 with 270 additional deaths. This is 1.74 percent of the total case count.

The DOH said the number of active cases in the country stands at 102,748 or 5.9 percent of the total tally.

The case count surpassed Saturday’s record of 14,249.

Based on the recent data, 59,857 individuals were tested and a 23.5 percent positivity rate was observed.

Of the active cases, 95.9 percent are mild, 1.1 percent are asymptomatic, 0.8 percent are critical, 1.3 percent are severe, and 0.93 percent are moderate.

Moreover, 70 percent of intensive care unit (ICU) beds have been utilized across the country. In Metro Manila, 71 percent are of ICU beds are in use.

The DOH noted that 364 duplicates were removed from the overall tally. Of which, 360 are recoveries.

“Moreover, 5 cases previously tagged as recoveries have been validated to be active cases and 141 cases that were previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation” the DOH stated.

On August 13, three labs were not able to submit their data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System.
