Bohol logs 268 new COVID-19 infections

TAGBILARAN CITY — The province of Bohol recorded 268 new COVID-19 cases on Monday, August 9.

Based on the latest report of the Bohol Inter-Agency Task Force (BIATF), there were 1,043 active cases in the province.

Most of the patients have mild symptoms and are asymptomatic.

As of August 5, 191,541 Boholanos were fully vaccinated against COVID-19 out of 315,468 total target population.

COVID-19 is a potentially deadly respiratory ailment caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus, which was first discovered in Wuhan province of China in late 2019.

Mutations of the SARS-CoV-2 result in new variants of the new coronavirus such as Alpha, Beta, Delta, Gamma, Theta, and Lambda, among others.

The dreaded Delta (B.1.617.2) variant was first detected in India, Alpha (B.1.1.7) in the United Kingdom, Beta (B.1.351) in South Africa, Gamma (P.1) in Brazil, Theta (P.3) in the Philippines, and Lambda (C.37) in Peru.

So far, the World Health Organization has declared the Delta, Alpha, Beta, and Gamma as variants of concern or VOCs.
