MANILA, Philippines — Amid threat from the more infectious Delta variant, Gen. Guillermo Eleazar, chief of the Philippine National Police, has ordered the country’s police chiefs to ensure cleanliness and orderliness in their respective police stations.

Eleazar on Saturday said all police stations should be clean, not just for the organization’s Intensified Cleanliness Policy, but also for the health and safety of their personnel.

Police stations should also be regularly disinfected as there were reports of a surge of COVID-19 cases among police officers, he said.

As of July 31, the PNP Health Service recorded 106 new cases, bringing the total number of cases to 30,434.
