MANILA, Philippines—The country’s weather bureau on Wednesday warned of widespread rains over Mindanao, the Bicol region and eastern and central Visayas that could trigger flashfloods and landslides, as a low pressure area continued to brew off Mindanao.

As of 2 p.m., the low pressure area was 300 kilometers east of Southern Mindanao, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration, of Pagasa.

Pagasa said Southern Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao would experience cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms that could become widespread rains over Mindanao, the Bicol region, and eastern and central Visayas.

Pagasa also warned of strong to gale force winds in the northern seaboard of Northern Luzon because of the northeast monsoon.

It said seas would be rough to very rough, and advised fishing boats and other small seacraft not to venture out into the sea. Larger vessels, on the other hand, should be on alert for big waves.
