2 dead, 1 hurt in Quezon mishaps
LUCENA CITY—A pedestrian and a motorcyclist died, while another rider was injured in separate road accidents Sunday in Lucena City and Lopez town in Quezon province.
Quezon police reported Monday that a motorcycle driven by Tristan Millares, 32, with his back-rider, Jhodiel Cansanay, 31, was hit by a speeding Mitsubishi L300 Van at the corner of Quezon Avenue and Gomez Street here at 10:15 p.m.
Both motorcycle riders were thrown off their vehicle and landed on the pavement.
Millares died on the spot from injuries, while Cansanay was brought to the Quezon Medical Center for treatment. Both riders had no crash helmets for protection, the report said.
The still-unidentified driver of the van sped off after the incident.
A video camera on the dashboard of another vehicle at the site recorded the incident. However, the video footage was not able to capture the plate number of the van.

Article continues after this advertisementMeanwhile, a farmer died after a speeding truck tractor head hit him along the Maharlika Highway in Barangay Canda Ilaya in Lopez town around 4:30 p.m.
The police said Nestor Ortenero, 64, was walking on the roadside when the truck driven by Anthony Viloria hit him.
Ortenero, who suffered grave injuries, expired on the way to the hospital.
The police arrested Viloria.
